Iran. A woman activist sentenced to 10 lashes by whip and six months in prison in Iran

Nasrin Afzali was sentenced of the charges of illegal assembly, complicity to threaten national security, disruption of public order and disregard for police orders in a peacefully demonstrating for women's rights.

The theocratic regime of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad condemned this Monday the Iranian journalist and militant for the women's rights in that country, to serve a sentence of six months of prison and 10 lashes, informed the web site of the newspaper ONE.

Afzali was found guilty of "altering the public order for having taken part in demonstrating across Tehran Prosecutor's Office" indicated her attorney Mohammad Mostaphaie, mentioned by the Iranian newspaper Etemad MelliAfzali's attorney Mohammad Mostaphaie said , "this sentence was pronounced even though my customer stated to have found the revolutionary court as journalist, to follow the judgement of five feminists who participated in a demonstrating in 2006".

Afzali besides being activist for the rights of the women, she is member of the Women Chapter of the United Student Front, group of reformist trend. In the last months, the government of Ahmadinejad has arrested several feminist militants, most of whom are still in prison.
